Moon Transcription
You know that astrology is built on opposites. We talked about it in the introduction. Well, the opposite of the radiating out Sun is the reflecting in Moon.
It’s a beautiful picture. Really. If you want to contrast the moon and the sun as two separate expressions of ourselves, one out, one in, and that’s exactly what we’re going to focus on with them.
Another duality. The sun is masculine. The moon in our textbook, says the eternal feminine page 160 to 165, the eternal feminine. So we are going to talk about some of the feminine characteristics.
The section is 160 to 165.
And I think most of us know the proximity to earth because we are quite familiar with it every month we see it in its various stages in the sky. It graces us fully once a month, every 27.32 days, but it is just shy of 250,000 miles from the earth. That’s the broad number. If somebody said, “how far is the moon?” Well, it’s just, just under 250,000 miles.
Now we’re going to look at the size compared to the earth and I chose the diameter to compare to, so if we went right through the middle of the earth from. One side to the, you know what I’m talking about? You core it, right? You just sent a drill bit right through the Earth’s middle. That would be 7,915 miles. Well, the moon is 2,159 miles. So we’re going to have that benchmark in there as we talk about all of the planets, but this will give you an idea in your mind of the comparative size to Earth.
And as we just mentioned, its orbit is 27 1/3 days.
Now the moon rules cancer, the sign of cancer. So opposite side of the chart that puts it in detriment in Capricorn. It is in exaltation (it feels really good) in Taurus – complimentary characteristics. And the opposite sign of Taurus is Scorpio.
And of course we’ve just characterized it as not only them. The eternal feminine. In fact, I would say divine feminine.
So the key words, we can start with our deepest emotional self because we are looking in. So it’s our subconscious, it’s our hidden, think of the dark side of the moon. There are a few of us left… a few of us left that remember 1968, when Neil Armstrong jumped down that ladder and said “a small step for a man, a giant leap for mankind.”
But you know, before that they flew a mission to the moon and they orbited the moon and came back. Could you imagine being an astronaut on that mission? You got to look at it right there, but you didn’t get to go down and touch it. Ugh! But they were the real pioneers because the big deal was when they went around the moon and got on the … what Pink Floyd attributed with the song, or an album… the dark side of the moon.
And then they, had to fire the rocket. They had to fire their spacecraft to put them back in an orbit to spin back around the moon and redirect to earth. And that was a big deal because it was silent. There was no radio communication on “the dark side of the moon”. Well, that’s our subconscious. It’s a perfect example of that because a lot of our embedded collective past is hidden on “the dark side of the moon”.
And part of our objective… part of our reason for being here…
You know, people say, “Well, what’s my life purpose. I want to know my life purpose. Astrology is going to tell me my life purpose.”
A lot of our life purpose is digging up the backside of the moon and firing a blast to bring it around to the front so we can deal with it. But we like to keep it hidden back there. It’s conveniently out of the way.
So we are talking about mother. When we talk about the moon, we’re talking about divine feminine, the goddess /feminine. Intuition, our emotions, our deep emotions.
The other thing that the moon and cancer represent and the fourth house, which we will see that it rules… is our homing instincts.
I was saying on the podcast the other day, homing pigeons. Have you ever had homing pigeons where you live? Oh, what a mess! You better have a garden hose nearby, but it’s that homing instinct. And that’s the very image is you can’t get rid of those darn things because they come back there. That’s where they’re supposed to be.
The other thing about the moon that is really important to lock into and make a star by this one is changeability. The moon is all the ways changing the cycles of the moon reflected in the tides, every six hours, the cycles of the moon, every 27 1/3 days. The moon is constantly changing!
In mundane astrology, the moon rules common people. It rules women, crowds, everything related to the broad public.
And in medical astrology as well… It’s our general health. See, we’re talking about the big broad here in these macro themes. It’s our emotional health. It’s the fertility. And that can be not only the reproductive fertility, but the productive fertility as well.
Energies to align. It’s my inner self, my collective past. It’s my feelings and my emotions. It’s me reflecting on myself. It’s me reflecting on my inner most secrets, my inner most wantings. My inner most shadow memories. I really believe that one of the greatest gifts that you could give yourself as a combination of some past life therapy in conjunction with the Nodes of the Moon. And we’ll talk about the nodes of the moon separately, but some therapy around a combination of what those nodes, what the moon is pointing us to, and then going back and literally being willing to fly around to the dark side of the moon and gather some of that stuff up and deal with it.
Now we’ve completed the two luminaries. So next we’re going to go start working our way from the sun outward. So we’ll begin with mercury will go all the way out to Pluto.
